Judith discusses the importance of faith in the fight against Coronavirus

Bradford South MP Judith Cummins met with Father Paul Grogan of St Mary’s Mother of God parish to hear about the valuable work Father Paul and his parishioners are providing across their parish, which encompasses Wibsey, Royds, Wyke and Clayton heights within the Queensbury ward.

In a mark of the times Judith followed a meeting with Father Paul in St Winefride’s Presbytery gardens with a video conference with representatives from the parish.

Father Paul told Judith of how young people from the church have taken a leading role in reaching out to parishioners who are self-isolating and how network of church volunteers are calling vulnerable people across the parish to offer them support and comfort.

In the meeting Judith updated Father Paul how she had worked with various agencies and faith groups to help during the pandemic and Father Paul and his parishioners raised questions with Judith concerning the reopening of churches and the rights of residents in residential homes with regard to the Last Sacraments. Judith promised to raise these issues with government.

If you live within the parish and you need support, you can contact Father Paul on 01274 677992.

Judith Cummins MP for Bradford South said: “In times of crisis people’s faith is of fundamental importance, providing many with the drive to help others in times of need. I have said it many times before but without the response from our faith and community groups, I don’t know how we would have coped during this covid-19 pandemic."

Father Paul said: “I would like to thank Judith Cummins MP for visiting our parish and for expressing her gratitude to parishioners for the different ways in which they are supporting those who are self-isolating. It was good to have chance to give an account to Judith of how my parishioners are supporting people locally and it was interesting to get her overview of the current situation.”
