Judith Cummins MP has praised Bradford’s global manufacturing reach during a visit to a Bradford South-based business.

Judith recently visited BorgWarner Bradford, who produce advanced turbochargers for the personal and commercial vehicle sectors.

The company employs over 300 people at its Bradford site and over 38,000 people globally. Comprised of up to 200 components, turbochargers built in Bradford help increase engine power, which is important in commercial, industrial and agricultural vehicles all over the world. What is more, by optimising the fuel-to-air ratio, turbochargers can make engines offer better fuel economy and reduce emissions.

The team are planning to invest £2 million in the Bradford site, including solar panels for energy generation and building improvements.

Plant Manager Anton said: “We are based in Bradford because that is where the local talent is. The highly skilled team at BorgWarner Bradford produce advanced turbocharger components that make engines more fuel efficient. We were delighted to show Judith how our plant works and how we are bringing skilled jobs to Bradford.”

During the visit, Judith and the team spoke about the strength of the sector, investment in apprenticeships and work experience, and the future of transitioning to hydrogen-based and other renewable fuels.

Judith said: “‘It is important that hi-tech companies like BorgWarner are continuing to invest in Bradford and the city’s skilled workforce. The company is a shing example of how local manufacturing is making a global impact.”
