A multi-million-pound project to invest in Holme Wood reached a new milestone today following the inaugural meeting of the Pride in Place Neighbourhood Board.

The £20m Pride in Place Programme, which is funded by the Government, will invest £2 million per year for the next ten years into projects chosen by local people. Additionally, a further £300,000 will be invested across Bradford South as part of the Pride in Place Impact Fund.

Announcing the investment last September, Judith said: “This money will help build pride and belief in our community, and I will make sure that local voices are listened to.”

Led by an independent chair, Sam Kirkby, the board will be responsible for managing how the funding is spent. The board is made up of local people – including residents, representatives of community groups, churches, and local businesses.

The money could be spent on anything from improving green spaces, fixing up empty buildings, improving community spaces, or creating local jobs and opportunities.

Speaking after the meeting, chair Sam Kirkby said:

“It is a great privilege to be appointed as the Pride in Place chair for Holme Wood. Having spent all my life on the estate it is fantastic to be a part of a once-in-a-generation opportunity of community-led regeneration. I look forward to working with Judith Cummins MP, residents, community members and statutory partners over the next ten years to bring about long-lasting change for people in Holme Wood.”

Opening the inaugural meeting of the board, Judith congratulated Sam on his appointment as chair:

“Pride in Place is a huge opportunity to build on the strengths of our community.

I am delighted to welcome Sam to his role as chair. He is a Holme Wood resident and community leader who brings years of experience and community involvement to the role. His leadership will be vital in ensuring that local voices and strong community partnerships are at the heart of this work to bring lasting change to the area.

This is an important milestone for the wider Pride in Place programme, and I will keep fighting for further investment across Bradford South.

I continue to encourage residents to take part in events and to have their say by completing my Pride in Place survey.”

Further events will be announced soon, and residents can complete the Pride in Place survey here: https://www.judithcummins.org.uk/pride-in-place
