Judith has welcomed new buses for passengers in Bradford, backed by £28 million government funding. The funding will be spread across both Bradford and Sheffield.
The investment is designed to bring smoother and quieter journeys for passengers, whilst also improving local air quality.
The funding itself will support jobs in engineering, construction, green manufacturing, boosting regional economies, and delivering the Government’s Plan for Change. The money comes alongside £3.6 billion investment in transport across West and South Yorkshire announced by the Government in the Spending Review.
As part of the £2.1 billion city region transport funding announced for West Yorkshire, Bradford is also expected to benefit from a brand-new bus station, alongside more connections to Leeds city centre through the West Yorkshire Metro. Construction is expected to begin as early as 2028.
Transport Minister and MP for Wakefield and Rothwell, Simon Lightwood, said:
"Buses are lifelines for communities – they transport people to work and get people to doctors’ appointments. I’m delighted that our £28 million investment will bring cleaner, greener buses to Bradford and Sheffield — cutting pollution, supporting manufacturing jobs and driving forward our Plan for Change.
"By backing our Mayors, we’re giving local people the power to build a modern transport network that works for them.”
Speaking on the announcement, Judith Cummins MP said:
“This is fantastic news for people across Bradford South, and across the whole of Bradford.
“I have long campaigned for better transport links for Bradford South, and I welcome the announcement of new buses for Bradford, as well as the plan for a new bus station in Bradford.
“Bradford is the fifth largest metropolitan district in the UK, and our city deserves to be fully connected by high quality transport links and services.”
